Software engineering is the newest field of studying in Ukraine, which includes a system of methods and disciplines for software design, development, operation and maintenance. This area is related to all aspects of software development life cycle, from the initial stages of specification to the maintenance of the system after delivery to the customer. In today’s world, the dynamic software industry is one of the most promising in world and Ukrainian economies, and IT companies are market leaders. Software systems are everywhere. Without the proper software, it is impossible to imagine manufacturing, researches, education, health care, finance or government areas and even life.
Nowadays highly skilled programmers are in demand, and the profession of programmer is one of the most prestigious and highly paid. In the list of the most profitable and necessary professions that will be popular in coming years, one of the first places is taken by a software engineer. Highly qualified software development and maintenance professionals are needed in almost all sectors of county life. The main area of employment of graduates is to work as software engineers in IT companies of Ukraine and the world, in which they will be able to occupy positions of system and application programmers, analysts and architects of computer systems, project managers, web-developers, software testing engineers, database specialists, etc.
There are hundreds of IT companies working with local and foreign partners in Ukraine. More than a dozen such companies are successfully operating in Ivano-Frankivsk. These companies provide interesting projects for employees, professional growth and decent pay. The development of the software industry in our country is constrained by a shortage of highly qualified specialists, so graduates have a good prospect of employment.
Students of the specialty Software Engineering” acquire modern languages of programming, knowledge of computer science, computer technology, databases, Internet technologies, all necessary knowledge for practical engineering activities, as well as modern methods of creating and maintaining software, learn to analyze technical tasks, work in a development team, test and provide high quality of the software product, manage projects and so on. Main specializations in studying are software development for computer systems, web-oriented systems, mobile devices and embedded systems.
Teaching of Software Engineering students is carried out at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, which has a long-standing practice of training specialists in the IT industry. Students of the Faculty participate in Olympiads, competitions and scientific conferences. The best students are engaged in research work, and have the opportunity to continue their studies in magistracy and postgraduate studies. The Faculty provides an opportunity for students to study simultaneously for free in the magistracy of our university and the state universities of Poland (Krakow, Rzeszow) with the receipt of two master’s degrees – Ukrainian and European. The CISCO Local Networking Academy, which is equipped with the necessary network and telecommunication equipment allows to obtain knowledge of modern network information technologies and gives the opportunity to obtain the certificate of the international model for the right to service computer networks which is recognized in more than 180 countries.
Teaching staff of the Department of Information Technology have many years of experience. The educational process is provided with the necessary material and technical base. Highly qualified personnel of other departments of the faculty are involved in the educational process, providing fundamental training.
Admission is based on competition certificates Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment and Application document of secondary education. The list of required certification testing will be announced at the university after approval the rules of admission in 2020.
